ESSENTIALS OF LACE KNITTING (Intermediate Level)
Start the new year by expanding your knitting skills! In this series of classes, you will learn the basics of lace knitting by making a set of three nature-inspired cowls: “Lupine Meadows”, “Absaroka Autumn”, and “Twigs & Buds” all designed by the instructor. Together, these patterns comprise a progressive course in lace knitting as well as chart reading. Each cowl requires only one skein of the recommended yarn and size 8 circular needles. Although these are small and relatively quick projects, they will provide you with the basic skills for lace knitting and give you the confidence to tackle larger, more complex designs.
Six Sessions – The first session starts Wednesday, January 8, 2014
Dates: January 8, 15, and 29; February 2, 16, and 23 at 2:00 p.m.
Fee: $65 plus materials
Materials: Three skeins of Mountain Meadows “Cody”; Size 8 – 16” circular needle (or size needed to obtain gauge); scrap yarn for working a swatch at the first class. Recommended but optional: magnet board for holding charts.
Aimee has stitched all three cowls and you can view them here at the store. They are fabulous!
Cozy Felted Mittens (Intermediate level) 3 Sessions
My hands freeze in gloves so felted mittens is my answer to frosty fingers. I wanted stretchy cuffs but did not like the look of an exposed cuff. This pattern has a few short rows to add some shape to the mittens and two options for a hidden cuff or slightly exposed cuff if you want a contrasting color.
Note: This pattern is written for Magic loop, TAAT (two at a time). If you want to use DPNs or knit one mitten at a time you will need to make the appropriate adjustments.
Materials: 220 -300 yds worsted weight wool (make sure it will felt, not super wash or “machine washable”) Cuff is not felted & can be knit out of contrasting color or other yarn that is super wash or yarn that will not felt.
US10- 40” circulars or longer for Magic Loop & US4 (for ribbing),
